Elementary Education Track

HUMAN DEVELOPMENT MAJOR: ELEMENTARY EDUCATION CONCENTRATION (HDV5). Students in the Elementary Education Concentration will complete 42 credit hours:

PART I. TAKE EACH OF THE FOLLOWING COURSES:

  1. PSY 1001 – Introductory Psychology.
    • Both semesters of General or Introductory Psychology must be taken in transfer for equivalence. Only 3 hours of Introductory Psychology count toward the major.
  2. SOC 1010 – Introduction to Sociology.
  3. PSY 1800 – Developmental Educational Psychology.
  4. NUT 2040 – Introduction to Nutrition OR HES 3070 – Parental Health Care Issues.
  5. PSY 3250 – Child Psychology.
  6. PSY 3340 – Cognitive Development and Learning.
  7. PSY 3350 – Psychology of Social Development.
  8. SOC 3400 – Child and Adolescent Socialization OR ECE 3860 – Cultural Socialization of Children
  9. SOC 3410 – The Family in Transition
  10. PSY 2310 – Introduction to Statistics for Social and Behavioral Science.
    • Students who have taken MTH 1210 or equivalent in transfer before deciding to major in human development may substitute it for PSY 2310. However, MTH 1210 cannot be used both in the major and to satisfy the Level I General Studies mathematics requirement.
    • PSY 2310, PSY 3280, & PSY 4960 must be taken in sequence, one at a time (three semesters total).
  11. PSY 3280 – Developmental Research Methods.
    • PSY 2310, PSY 3280, & PSY 4960 must be taken in sequence, one at a time (three semesters total).
  12. PSY 4960 – Senior Thesis in Human Development.
    • PSY 4960 meets university senior experience requirement.
    • PSY 2310, PSY 3280, & PSY 4960 must be taken in sequence, one at a time (three semesters total).
