Frequently Asked Questions
Health Insurance
Is Health Insurance required of students?
All students taking 10 credit hours (or more) in the Fall and/or Spring semester and those taking 8 credit hours (or more) in the Summer semester are required to participate in the College-sponsored health insurance plan and are assessed this charge automatically on their tution bill. Students having proof of outside health insurance coverage (that meets or exceeds the College's comparability standards) can waive this charge IF THEY SUBMIT A WAIVER BY THE PUBLISHED WAIVER DEADLINE.
What is the health insurance offered by the college? How do I waive the insurance?
There are several tiers, or levels of health insurance available to you as an enrolled student. If you are a full or part-time student, you may seek medical services at the Health Center at Auraria, located in the Plaza Building, Ste. 150, on the Auraria Campus. You must show a valid ID each time you check in, and you must fill out a Patient Information Sheet and Health History form on your first visit. You will be charged for services rendered, although at a very reasonable cost.
If you are a full-time student, you are automatically billed for student health insurance. The cost will appear on your tuition bill under the insurance heading.
If you have outside insurance, it is your responsibility to complete a Waiver form before the deadline published in each semester’s Class Schedule. No refunds will occur after the waiver deadline has passed.
Waiver forms and insurance brochures can be picked up at the Student Health Insurance Office in the Health Center at Auraria, PL 150, or at the Student Accounts Office, CN 110.
Remember, waiver forms are only good for one year beginning with the fall semester. You will be required to provide proof you are covered by an active, comprehensive health insurance plan. Under the Student Health Insurance plan, all covered costs are paid at 100 percent. Dependents are eligible for optional coverage.
For a full list of insurance coverage available, go to Health Center at Auraria, Plaza 150.
