Frequently Asked Questions

Health Insurance

Is Health Insurance required of students?

All students taking 10 credit hours (or more) in the Fall and/or Spring semester and those taking 8 credit hours (or more) in the Summer semester are required to participate in the University-sponsored health insurance plan and are assessed this charge automatically on their tuition bill. Students having proof of outside health insurance coverage (that meets or exceeds the University's comparability standards) can waive this charge IF THEY SUBMIT A WAIVER BY THE PUBLISHED WAIVER DEADLINE.

What is the health insurance offered by the university?

There are several options of health care available to you as an enrolled student. Whether you are a full or part-time student, you may seek medical services at the Health Center at Auraria, located in the Plaza Building, Ste. 150, on the Auraria Campus. You must show a valid ID each time you check in, and you must fill out a Patient Information Sheet and Health History form on your first visit. You will be charged for services rendered, although at a very reasonable cost.

If you are a full-time student, you are automatically billed for student health insurance and enrolled. The cost will appear on your tuition bill under the insurance heading. The insurance plan offered is an 80/20 PPO with a low annual deductible.

How do I waive the insurance?

If you have outside insurance and wish to waive off the mandatory insurance, it is your responsibility to complete an electronic waiver form before the deadline published in each semester’s Class Schedule. No refunds will occur after the waiver deadline has passed. An electronic waiver form can be found under your ConnectU login.

Remember, your waiver is only good for one academic year, typically beginning with the fall semester. You will be required to provide proof you are covered by an active, comprehensive health insurance plan every year.

Insurance plan brochures are available at the Student Health Insurance Office in the Health Center at Auraria, Plaza149.
