Frequently Asked Questions

Health Insurance

Is Health Insurance required of students?

All students taking 9 credit hours or more in any given semester are required to participate in the University-sponsored health insurance plan and are assessed this charge automatically on their tuition bill. Students having proof of outside health insurance coverage (that meets or exceeds the University's Waiver Standards) can waive this charge IF THEY SUBMIT A WAIVER BY THE PUBLISHED WAIVER DEADLINE.

How do I waive the Mandatory Health Insurance Fee?

If you have outside insurance and wish to waive off the University’s mandatory insurance policy, it is your responsibility to complete an electronic waiver form before each semester’s published deadline. No refunds will occur after the waiver deadline has passed. The waiver form can be found under your ConnectU login, then click on Health Insurance Waiver under the Registration tab.

Remember, your waiver is only good for one semester. You will be required to provide proof you are covered by an active, comprehensive health insurance plan every semester. When you register for 9 or more credits, an email outlining how to file a electronic insurance waiver will be sent to your ConnectU email account within 24 hours.

What type of Health Insurance is offered by the University?

If you are a full-time student taking 9 credits or more, you are automatically billed for student health insurance. The cost will appear on your tuition bill under the insurance heading. The insurance plan offered is a PPO with a 80/20 coinsurance, a low annual deductible, prescription coverage, and a special benefit at the campus Health Center.

The Student Health Insurance Office is located inside the Health Center, Plaza149, it has complete insurance coverage information, including student insurance plan brochures, and the University’s insurance policy. Can I access Health Care on campus at the Health Center?

You must show a valid ID each time you check in, and you must fill out a Patient Information Sheet and Health History form on your first visit.
