PEER ADVOCATES:

Mahdyeh Nowkhandan: Excel Pre-Collegiate Program, Mile High United Way, and Reisher

Email: mnowkhan@msudenver.edu

My name is Mahdyeh Nowkhandan (but you can call me Maddy) and I am the peer advocate for Reisher Scholars here at MSU Denver. As an advocate, my role is to be your support, to listen to your needs and to answer any questions you may have regarding your scholarship or life as a college student. I hope to be a resource for you and I am excited to begin working with you. As I begin my senior year with a major in Biology, a minor in Integrative Therapeutic Practices and My K-6th Teachers Licensure in the works, I can confidently say I am no stranger to MSU Denver. Throughout my time at MSU Denver I have been humbled by the strength of teamwork and the importance of communication. I know that it is not always easy to balance the worlds we have created. As the first in my family to make it to college I have felt the stress of balancing work, family, school, friends and finances. I understand the determination and the sacrifices you have all made to get to where you are. As a Reisher Scholarship recipient myself, I understand what it takes to come as far as you have come. I appreciate each of your stories and I am committed to helping you succeed.

Kayla Pullano: Daniels Fund, Daniels Opportunity, and PaceSetter

Email: kpullano@msudenver.edu

Hello, I am currently a senior and I am majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. My future career goals include attending graduate school and the pursuing a career in Industrial/Organization Psychology. I enjoy helping people and I am very excited to get to know everyone involved in the program. This will be the first year I will be a Peer Advocate, but I have been a PaceSetter Scholarship recipient since 2009, so I know the program from the other side as well. On the more personal side, I am a mother of two toddler boys that are a year and two weeks apart. Being a mom, full time student and a worker has taught me how to manage my time very well and also to be very organized. I hope I will be able to share my experience here at MSU Denver with you and help you find your way here. I am eager for our 1-on-1 meetings in order to get to know everyone and to help you succeed here at MSU Denver!

We can discuss any issues, concerns, and goals that you may have related to the academic year. My goal is to make your college experience a little bit easier and as enjoyable as possible.
