Personal Biography Statement

Currently, I work in real estate and land development. I have been involved in real estate at some level since the mid 1980's. Because of the market opportunities in real estate, I am currently working with new acquisitiosn and rentals. My last construction project was a custom home in Westcliffe, Colorado, which I have since sold. Westcliffe is in the heart of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at an elevation of about 9,000 feet. On this construction project, not only was I the developer and general contractor, I did a lot of the "subcontractor" work - framing, roofing, interior finish. It proved to be a great experience – enjoying the “wild side” of Colorado and the rigors of home construction. But, it is nice to be back in suburbia, currently I live outside of Denver.

With the distressing happenings in the residential marketplace, I have found myself involved in developing a portfolio of properties. As we know, times like these create opportunities as well as struggles.
Previously, I have spent a lot of my career in the agribusiness where I was employed with a national rose grower. I held a number of diverse positions with my employer over a ten-year period including: national sales manager, interim Chief Financial Officer, and Commercial Real Estate manager. As international pressures continued to erode the floral marketplace, the company succumbed to downsizing and reorganization. I took the opportunity to become more involved in development and construction.
My educational background includes a B.S. in Finance from the University of Colorado and an M.B.A with emphasis in Marketing, also the University of Colorado. I am currently a licensed real estate broker in the state of Colorado and I have been licensed to sell securities and insurance.

On a personal note, the pride and joy of my home is my thirteen-year-old son. We spend quite a bit of time enjoying the Colorado experience.

Teaching Philosophy

The world we find ourselves in is challenging and competitive. In today’s economy, people across the world are struggling to make a living, working hard to provide the basics in housing, medical care and nutrition. Individuals can no longer afford to try to compete in this landscape without an education. Education provides the opportunity to improve our financial, social and personal position – opportunities not provided by any other reasonably accessible medium. That being said, it is vital that when a student makes a commitment to themselves and their community to pursue an education, the faculty and educational community needs to be there to support them.

By recognizing what the gift of education can do for someone and the professor's role in providing this gift, facilitators can benefit from knowing they were an important part of making many people something better than they ever thought they could be.
In my role as facilitator for a student's education, I will strive to be there for the student and share in the gift of education. What better gift can there be?
