"I was born," not hatched! Someday I'll again post a real photo or the charcol profile illustration drawn by my gifted son Esteban Cabeza de Baca [MFA, Columbia University, 2014].

Current Projects

I'm moderating "Ethnic Identity and Political Power" panel at the U of Washington in Seattle on May 9, 2013. The panel includes Elaine Brown [Black Panthers], Cha Cha Jimenez [Young Lords], and Carlos Munoz [Brown Berets]. A film called "Aoki" will premiere. It's about a Japanese-American professor from UC Berkeley who inflitrated the Black Panthers for the FBI in the 1960s.

Research Areas/Interests

Spain-Morocco Summer Seminar, Council for International Educational Exchange, May 28-June 8, 2012, funded jointly by the United States State Department and Metro State University of Denver, Center for International Studies. I'm going back on my own dime next time.

Teaching Philosophy

I try to practice student engagement by any rational means necessary!! Freedom of speech does not stop at my class-room door and while I may disagree, I'll defend students' right to disagree with me, the textbooks, or any person or law. The only rule in my class discussions is that we agree to disagree respectfully.

Personal

For now, I might retire after the Summer 2013. Leaders deserve a "vote of no confidence," if they don't quit saying that they care for anything except their pride and excessive salaries. Students, staff,and faculty should form UNIONS to protect themselves from illegal work rules and usurpation of academic freedom. My opinion!!!!
