Educational Biography

Dr. Gruhl is the HTE Department Chair / Associate Professor. Dr. Gruhl joined the faculty at MSU Denver in 2006. Gruhl is responsible for overseeing the creation of the MSU Denver Hotel and Hotel Learning Center on campus.

Before joining the Hospitality, Tourism, and Events Management Department at MSU Denver, Dr. Gruhl was a Professor at Walnut Hill College in Philadelphia from 1998 – 2006. His practical experience in the hotel and restaurant industry included:

• Director of Food and Beverage at Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ
• Manager of Oscar’s Restaurant at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel in New York City, NY
• Manager of 525 Cafι and the Mini Bar Department at Hotel Inter-Continental in Chicago, IL.

In addition, Professor Gruhl has held the following positions in his fifteen year hotel and restaurant career: General Manager (F&B), Director of Sales and Marketing, Sales Manager, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Night Audit, Front Desk, and Housekeeping.

Professor Gruhl holds the following degrees:

• Doctor of Education, University of Delaware, Newark, DE
• Masters of Science in Management and Leadership, Rosemont College, Rosemont, PA
• Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Hotel / Restaurant Management, Minnesota State University – Moorhead, Moorhead, MN

Dr. Gruhl also teaches graduate business, management, and leadership courses at the following institution:

• Webster University, St. Louis, MO (2007 – present)

In 2003 – 2004 Dr. Gruhl was voted Professor of the Year by students in the accelerated program at Holy Family University.
