Personal Biography Statement

Jack A. Barwind is the former chair of the Speech Communication Department
at Syracuse University. Prior to coming to Syracuse, Dr. Barwind was on the faculty at Cornell University for ten years and served as Department Head of Speech Communication at Montana State University from 1979 to 1985. He authored numerous papers and articles as well as books titled "Guide to Effective Oral, Communication" & "Communication in Everyday Life", and recently he co-edited "The Talk Within: Its Central Role in Communication". He worked as a communication consultant with several local, state, and federal government agencies in addition to his extensive work in the private sector. What follows is a partial list of the organizations with which Dr. Barwind consulted: AT&T, Ohio Bell Telephone Company, Montana Board of Realtors, National Institutes of Health, Montana Institute of Bankers, New York State Office of Court Administration, Niagara Mohawk Power Company, MontanaSocial and Rehabilitative Service Administration, White House Commission on Aging, American Right of Way Association, American Diabetes Association, New York State Cooperative Extension, Internal Revenue Service, and Laubauch Literacy. In addition to his consulting activities, Dr. Barwind is an accomplished speaker; his humorous approach to communication problems makes him in great demand.
