Personal Biography Statement

John T. (“Jay”) Garcia’s background is in real estate development, project management and urban/regional planning. He owns a private real estate development consulting firm G3 Planning LLC. Mr. Garcia also has professional experience working as Director of Planning for a master plan developer in Colorado Springs (the 10,000-acre Briargate Master Plan). As the master plan designation would indicate, this community development experience included various types of short / mid / long-range planning and development activities – office, retail, residential, and institutional land uses, as well as multi-modal transportation infrastructure projects to name a few.

Sustainability is Mr. Garcia’s passion and he believes that it is our collective responsibility to serve the public interest and achieve high standards of integrity and proficiency. His credentials include Certified Planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) through the United States Green Building Council.

In addition to running his own business and working on projects in Denver and in Colorado Springs, he also teaches graduate and undergraduate level courses at the University of Colorado Denver and the University of Colorado Boulder. Jay thoroughly enjoys teaching and is looking forward to future opportunities to give back to the academic community and society as a whole. Mr. Garcia holds a Master’s Degree in Urban & Regional Planning and a Master’s Degree in Urban Design both from the University of Colorado at Denver as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and Environmental Design from the University of Colorado at Boulder. His ongoing training, education and experience include all aspects of sustainable development, planning, and urban design.
