Personal Biography Statement

Jim Gibson has been an instructor at Metropolitan State University of Denver since 2011, teaching American National Government, American Political Thought, The American Presidency, American State and Local Government and Issues in Public Policy. Little Rock Nine member Carlotta Walls LaNier, numerous Colorado legislators, other political leaders and journalists have been guest speakers in his classes.

Prior to teaching Political Science and Public Policy at MSU Denver, he was the Founder and President of the Colorado Democratic Leadership Council, advocating new public policy ideas and providing political analysis and advice to the state’s governors, legislators and congressional delegation. Influential in state public policy and political circles for over two decades, he was named by The Denver Post as a leader to watch in the 21st century and has published commentaries in The Denver Post, Colorado Springs Gazette-Telegraph, Pueblo Chieftain, Colorado Statesman, the former Rocky Mountain News and many other newspapers.

He was also the founder of two independent political advocacy groups – the New Progressive Initiative and Coloradans for Economic Opportunity. He was involved in the formation of the Colorado Democracy Alliance.

Prior to the Colorado Democratic Leadership Council, he worked in the Governor’s Office and as a senior executive at the Colorado Student Loan Program. He has a M.S. in Public Policy and Industrial Administration from Carnegie-Mellon University.
