Personal Biography Statement

My name is Dr. Jeff Helton, I am a new arrival in the Health Care Management program at MSU Denver. More importantly, I am here to help you achieve your goal of becoming a successful leader in the health care industry and in your studies overall. I am very happy to have the chance to work with you and support your educational efforts.

I have been a senior leader in the health care industry, working as chief financial officer in hospitals, health plans, or integrated health systems over the past twenty plus years. For quite a while, I specialized in helping organizations that were in bankruptcy or receivership come back to financial health. That work taught me a lot about what has worked – and not worked in our industry. I hope to share a lot of the lessons learned from those organizations with you as we work together in your health care management studies.

While I love teaching, that’s not all I’m about. I was a competitive high jumper and competed internationally for many years and still dabble in Masters track and field even today. My wife Wendy and I are avid outdoors people, enjoying mountain biking, hiking, and skiing in the wonderful mountains so close by our city. I’m also a bass guitarist and have a commercial pilot certificate.
