Personal Biography Statement
Jeff London, PhD received his doctoral degree from the University of Colorado in 2006. While at CU, Dr. London was awarded CU-Boulder’s Department of Sociology “2003 Excellence in Teaching Award,” given by the Colorado Beta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, and the “2002 GPTI Instructor of the Year” award, given for excellence in classroom instruction. During the summer of 2007, Dr. London began working at MSCD as an Assistant Professor. In early 2010, Dr. London published his first book entitled, How the Use of Marijuana Was Criminalized and Medicalized, 1906-2004: A Foucaultian History of Legislation in America. Dr. London’s book investigates the social construction of the processes of marijuana criminalization and marijuana medicalization. It is the first substantive study on the subject to include a detailed historical context in which to situate a new theoretical model for examining the contemporary U.S. drug policy debate. As a rule, Dr. London is happiest when he is spending time with his wife and daughter.
