Personal Biography Statement

Greetings,

My name is James Stevens MS RD and I have been teaching Nutrition courses in the Department of Health Professions since 2007.

I am originally from Massachusetts where I attended UMass/Amherst for my undergraduate studies and completed a dietetic internship at a Harvard Teaching Hospital in Cambridge, MA. I moved to Colorado in 2001 and attained my Masters degree from Colorado State University in 2003.

I have been a nutrition consultant for over 13 years and have worked as an outpatient dietitian, at a world-renowned health resort and been a private consultant. Prior to becoming a college professor I was the Director of R&D for a sports nutrition supplement company giving me a unique perspective into that industry. I am an active member of the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists (SCAN) Dietetic Practice Group (DPG) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and currently serve as the Co-Editor for the Sports Nutrition Research Digest featured in the Pulse quarterly newsletter published for SCAN members. I was also a founding member of Sports Dietetics-USA and was instrumental in the formation of the Board Certification as a Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD).

In the "classroom" I will strive to make learning fun, be passionate about the subject matter, and be a lifelong learner myself. I will ask that you give 100% effort in my class and in return I will be fair, compassionate, and consistent in my treatment of students.

I look forward to this semester with great enthusiasm and to assisting you all in meeting your academic and professional goals.
