Personal Biography Statement

John Monnett recieved his doctorate in 1980 from the University of Northern Colorado in Higher Ed. Administration and History (joint). He holds an M. A. in History from San Jose State University and a B. A. in History from the University of Kansas. Dr. Monnett is the winner of the 2010 Wrangler Award, runner up for the Colorado Book Award (2009)and runner up for Western Writers of America Spur Award for 1994. Dr. Monnett has authored or co-authored thirteen books and numerous articles on the history of the American West and Native American history. He is a double recipient of Redd-Butler Research Fellowships from Brigham Young University. He specializes in Native American history.
