Teaching Philosophy

Professor Vuong-Sandoval's teaching philosophy is reflective of her practical experience and theoretical knowledge in the criminal justice and criminology field. She believes that her current and prior professional experience has necessitated continuous discourse and cohesive partnerships with local, state, and federal partners. She believes that it is not only imperative that students gain their educational framework, but it is equally significant that they engage in active dialogue with criminal justice practitioners, crime victims, criminal offenders, policymakers, and communities impacted by crime to acquire comprehensive appreciation and knowledge.

She encourages interactive learning with her students by providing a forum for provoking dialogue and thoughtful discussion and also incorporate facility tours and speakers to heighten consciousness. Students are inspired to challenge themselves by probing complex criminal justice and criminology issues and bringing these concerns to the forefront for examination and discussion. Her commitment is to provide a pragmatic methodology of criminal justice topics to equip students with the essential competence for success as future practitioners in this dynamic field.
