Personal Biography Statement
Suzanne Popovich Chandler began her broadcast career 30 years ago.With a BFA in Photography, BA in Art History, and minor in Journalism, Chandler landed a photojournalist position at KMGH-TV. She placed in National Press Photographer’s top 10 "News Photographer of the Year" competition, and began her production company, A Point of View Productions. She freelanced extensively for ABC, NBC CBS networks including 60 Minutes, America’s Most Wanted, Dateline and ESPN. Corporate clients: Coors,Xcel Energy,Freeport-McMoRan Inc, College Invest,and Lucent Tech. Assignments have led her to every state and internationally to England, France, Mexico, Vietnam and Israel. She covered presidential campaigns, oil spills, Oklahoma bombing, hurricanes, fires, global warming, homelessness, Columbine shootings, Jon Benet murder, drug busts, incest,Kobe Bryant,national security and the McVeigh Trial. Programs she has worked on won local and national awards and a national Peabody. In 2011, Chandler earned her MA from CU School of Journalism and Mass Comm in Print and Broadcast. She is in post on her doc Saving Faces-Restoring Hope, and is a contributing photojournalist on A Day in the Life of America’s Veterans 11.11.11. Chandler has worked with well-known correspondents Wallace, Safer, Rooney, Sawyer, Geraldo, Dotson, Whittiker, Bradley, Moriarty, Cooper, Trujillo and Vargas. She is an exceptional documentary photographer with an eye for lighting and composition, ear for natural sound, and creative talent for combining those skills into compelling stories. Chandler is a 2011-12 Fellow in CPFFN, CU Grad Teacher Program, and a former CU TA. She has lectured on news and ethics at CO Art Institute, Washington and Lee U, CU, Metro State, Grady School of Journalism at UGA, and Warren Tech. “I enjoy teaching students how to develop their own storytelling vision,” Chandler says.“It is critical for people to recognize the power of media in our everyday lives and in our democracy.”
