SGA Senate

The SGA Senate consists of 10 elected student representatives. This body acts as the voice of the students by addressing and remedying concerns and taking the initiative with student ideas. Much like the senate in Washington D.C., this body acts through drafting, debating and passing legislation.

Though much of the work done on the resolutions and bills happens during the week or in committee meetings, the Senate votes on and debates all pieces of legislation at official senate sessions, which are held from 3:00-5:00pm every Friday in the Senate Chambers, Tivoli 329. These meetings are public, and students are encouraged to attend. Each meeting contains a public comment section in the beginning, during which guests are free to voice their opinions, concerns, or ideas.

The Senate is governed by two documents: the SGA Constitution and the Policy Manual. Both of these documents are available for review upon request in the SGA office, Tivoli 307.

Senate Committees

As earlier alluded to, the Senate operates several committees in the interest of attending to all tasks in an efficient and effective manner. More information on Senate committees is available here.

In addition to making use of the Constitution and Policy Manual, the senate also runs its meetings under Robert's Rules of Order (429 KB), and follows parliamentary procedure.

To keep up on current Senate activity, be sure to join the SGA on OrgSync and look for the minutes and legislation that are shared through that page, or attend Senate meetings, which occur from 3-5pm on Fridays in Tivoli 329.
