Student Court

 

Mission Statement: The Student Court settles disputes between students, clubs, or the Student Government Assembly.

Are you interested in law or the court system?

The Student Court settle disputes between students, clubs, or the SGA. As a justice, you will sit on a panel and hear cases brought by any of these entities, make a ruling on each case, and determine the appropriate remedy.

The justices convene once per month for a one-hour meeting. When a case is pending before the court, the justices may meet up to three (3) hours per week.

 

All applicants and Justices shall meet the following criteria:


  • Have at least twelve (12) credit hours remaining before graduation at the time of appointment.

  • Commit to serving on the Student Court for a one-year term.

  • Commit to working a minimum of three (3) hours per week if there is a pending complaint, case, hearing, or function within the court.

  • Be enrolled for at least six (6) credit hours in the fall and spring semesters.

  • Be a student in "good standing" as defined by the Student Conduct Code enumerated within the Student Handbook.

  • Have and maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative minimum grade point average.

  • Have earned a minimum of sic (6) credit hours from Metro at the time of applying.

 

The Student Court Associate Justices shall:


  • Be available to work a minimum of three hour per week.

  • Be present at all Court meetings, hearings, conferences, and functions.

  • Be assigned and complete other Court-related matters, including being a Case Manager, as defined in Article 5.5.

  • Recuse himself/herself in the event of judicial review in which a real or perceived conflict of interest exists.
