SOCIOLOGY MINOR REQUIREMENTS

 

18 CREDIT HOURS [TOTAL]

 

These include:

 

SOC 1010 – Introduction to Sociology is required (3 credits).  This course may be a transfer course or may be taken at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

 

A minimum of One Social Stratification course* is required (3 credits).

 

A minimum of 12 additional semester hours in sociology courses, selected in consultation with a department advisor, will complete the minor.  At least 6 upper-division hours (3000- or 4000-level) of the minor must be completed at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

 

 

*Social Stratification courses:

 

                   SOC 3090 Urban Sociology

                        SOC 3220 Prejudice and Discrimination in Contemporary Society 

                   SOC 3240 Poverty in America 

                   SOC 3430 Gender and Society 

                        SOC 3710 Politics and Power  

                        SOC 3810 Population Issues 

                        SOC 4200 Social Stratification and Inequality 

 

You may choose your own Sociology elective courses or follow the guidelines for optional areas of concentration in the Metropolitan State University of Denver course catalog. 

 

REMEMBER: The last 12 hours of your undergraduate degree MUST be taken in residence at Metropolitan State University of Denver and you must have a minimum of 120 credit hours [40 of which must be upper-division hours].
