Auraria Health Advocates -
An innovative student group interested
in preventative health promotion, and
education for the wellness of the
Auraria Campus Community

Advocate at Table

What is a Health Advocate?Advocate in Turkey Costume
Heath Advocates are a group of students who are interested in providing health information and health promotion programs for their fellow students with the goal of improving the wellness of the Auraria Campus Community. We provide information to the campus community in an effort to promote, maintain and improve healthy lifestyles through knowledge and behavior change. Some of the issues that are important to us include substance abuse, safety, HIV/STDs, nutrition, smoking, high blood pressure, stress, depression and obesity.

Our goals are:
To encourage healthy behavior by

  1. Promoting healthy decisions by addressing the attitudes that often lead to unhealthy risks.
  2. By educating students about a range of topics aimed at physical and emotional well-being.
  3. By providing knowledge and skills addressing attitudes, offering support and resources

To reduce risk for individual illness or injury
To enhance our student’s educational experience by helping them make life-long healthy decisions.

What’s the advantage of being a Health Advocate?
You get to be creative!

  • Health education can be delivered in a variety of formats such as theatre, workshops, table outreach, educational programs, and the development of educational material (pamphlets, videos, posters or murals).

You get to make a difference! Strides Walking Program

  •  When you work with a student, you not only reach that student, but his family and his peers.  The information you learn and pass on can pave the way for wiser, healthier choices in the future.

You get to make positive changes in the world!
As health care costs continue to rise the importance of primary care will be shifted to health education and promotion.    Health education and promotion is one of the most upcoming fields in health care.
