Important Letter to Surveying and Mapping Students Concerning ABET Accreditation

April 28, 2009

Dear Surveying and Mapping Students:

Metropolitan State College of Denver is in the process of redesigning its Surveying and Mapping program.  As you know, Dr. Herbert Stoughton retired in July of 2008.  Since then, Dr. David Gibson of the University of Florida has been evaluating our existing curriculum and will be recommending significant curriculum changes.

As we are undertaking this major redesign and development project, we will not be seeking immediate reaccreditation with ABET.  This means that our existing ABET accreditation will end in September 2010.  If you want to graduate from the Surveying program while it has ABET accreditation, you must complete your coursework and graduate by the end of summer semester 2010.

We will continue to offer college credit Surveying classes after this time.  These courses will continue to be fully transferable to other institutions of higher education.  You must, however, consult the institution to which you are transferring credits for applicability to their degree programs.  Metropolitan State College of Denver is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of College and Schools.

Please call or email us with questions regarding your individual situation.  Our number is 303-721-1313.  Ask to speak to Cheryl Sipe or Susan Call.  Or email your questions to sipec@mscd.edu.

Sincerely,

Carol Svendsen
