Is the distance delivery Surveying and Mapping degree program ABET accredited?
Metropolitan State College of Denver Surveying and Mapping program is accredited by the Associated Science Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. How is credit awarded for each Metropolitan State College of Denver course?
Course credit is based on units designated as semester hours. Following each course number is the semester hour credit. For example: SUR 2520-4 is a 4 semester hour course. Click here for distance delivery course information.


What is the total cost/tuition for each distance delivery course for in-state and out-of-state students?
Distance delivery tuition does not differentiate between in-state and out-of-state students. The tuition for fall 2009 semester is $201 a credit hour plus fees. In addition to tuition and fees, there are books and course material fees.


What financial aid is available for the distance delivery surveying and mapping program?
Financial aid is available for those who qualify. Please contact the Metro State Financial Aid office. Grants and scholarships may also be available through your local PLS chapter. Contact your chapter for more information.


Does Metropolitan State College of Denver accept active duty military tuition assistance (TA) and/or Veterans benefits (GI Bill)?

I have been admitted to Metropolitan State College of Denver. What classes should I take?
In order for us to design a program that fits your educational needs we will need a copy of your transcripts and resume. After review of your transcripts and resume you will receive a degree plan that will state the classes you need based upon your educational and professional experiences. All of the surveying and mapping courses have prerequisites. Prerequisites must be completed with a grade of “C” or better or with permission of the instructor.

What are the prerequisites for the surveying courses?
Please refer to each course description posted on this website.

Please note that many of the freshman courses require Pre-Calculus or Trigonometry, and Calculus I as a prerequisite. All mathematic courses must be offered for physical science-based majors. The Surveying and Mappig program will not accept transfer mathematics credits from courses for business majors.

The Physics I and Physics II courses must be Calculus-based.

What are the Surveying and Mapping degree requirements?
Students must complete a minimum of 131 semester hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher for all course work.

Mathematics:
a. Pre-calculus or Trigonometry mathematics
b. Calculus I, II, and III
c. Advanced Matrix Methods for the Physical Sciences
d. Computer Science program course
e. Probability and Statistics
Physics I, II, III must be calculus-based courses
Technical Writing
Speech or Public Speaking
Surveying and Mapping related courses:

a. A minimum of forty-nine (49) semester hours in surveying and surveying related topics.

Are my credits from my previous college/university transferable to Metropolitan State College of Denver?
General education credits may be transferable to Metro State. You will need to send official transcripts to the Transfer Services department.

Previous surveying credits from other institutions will need to be reviewed by the Surveying and Mapping department. Send a copy of your transcripts to:

How do I register?

You must first apply for admissions to Metropolitan State College of Denver. Step by step admission instructions are available on this website. Click here for details.

Once you are admitted you will receive a letter of acceptance from admissions.


How do I take examinations?

All students taking distance delivery surveying courses will need to arrange for a proctor to supervise their course examinations. Once you are ready to take an examination, you will request to have the examination sent to your selected proctor through the surveying department.

How do I select a proctor for the examinations?
Contact a person employed by a public library, public school, or a college/university testing center near you. You may not use personal friends, acquaintances, relatives, or supervisors.

How do I complete the required labs through distance delivery courses?
Students taking a distance surveying course that includes a laboratory will need to arrange for a proctor to supervise the laboratory procedures. The proctor must be a licensed surveyor or engineer. The proctor may not be related to you in any way.

Can I complete the bachelors degree without attending classes on campus?
All of the required surveying courses are available through distance delivery. You will need to take and/or transfer the general education and elective courses to Metro State to be applied towards your degree.


Is the distance delivery Surveying and Mapping program a bachelor’s degree?
Metropolitan State College of Denver offers a Bachelor of Science in Surveying and Mapping.

What do I need to do to become a PLS? Does Metropolitan State College of Denver offer a preparation class for the LSI and/ or PLS examination?
To become a PLS you will need to contact the state in which you want to be licensed and ask for the state specific requirements. After you have received the state information, check our website for courses that meet those requirements.

Metropolitan State College of Denver offers forty (40) hours of lectures on DVD and accompanying lecture notes designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the major technical and legal aspects of land surveying practiced in the state of Colorado. Note to students outside Colorado: Although the course references Colorado law specifically, the philosophy and content of the law is basically the same in other states. Contact the professional association in your state for help in finding the specifics of the law as it applies to your state.
