About the Program
How Distance Delivery Works
History
Since 1996, the faculty of the Surveying and Mapping program have worked on developing course materials to be taught/delivered to students residing at remote/distant sites. Thirteen surveying courses and the LSI refresher course have been recorded onto DVD. There are two courses of study available - traditional and second degree. Students completing the traditional program earn a Bachelor of Science in Surveying and Mapping with a minor in Mathematics. Students eligible for the second degree program do not have to earn the mathematics minor, but are encouraged to do so.
Distance Delivery Format
The surveying course's (SUR) lectures are available on DVD format. There is also a course packet of lecture notes to accompany the course DVD's and textbooks. Each course requires a writing assignment, homework assignments, and examinations. Courses that include a laboratory must have the laboratory proctored by a licensed surveyor or engineer. All examinations are proctored through a local library convenient to the student. You have 6 months from the date of registration to complete the distance delivery surveying courses.
The general education requirements, technical electives, and mathematic courses required for the bachelors of science in surveying and mapping can be completed through Metro State and/or an accredited institution of higher education and transferred to Metro State to be applied towards your degree requirements.
Survey Course Entry Requirements
You must complete college trigonometry or pre-calculus with a grade of "C" or higher to begin taking SUR 1510-Surveying I and Calculus I for engineering and science majors (calculus for business majors is not acceptable) to register for Surveying II. All course prerequisites are listed under Courses.
