Admission Process
Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Candidate Requirements:
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Admissions Committee, comprised of the Teacher Education Department Chairs and the Program Specialist, will review applications after receiving the processed initial application packet from the MSU Denver Admissions Office. The initial application packet includes the graduate admissions application to MSU Denver, the $50 application fee and all official baccalaureate transcripts. Applicants will submit the following admission requirements to the Program Specialist:
- Updated copy of resume or vita.
- One-two page personal statement in support of application explaining decision to become an educator.
- Recommendation letter from previous education faculty or major advisor.
- Proof of passing the PLACE or Praxis II Elementary Education Content Area exam.
Applicants will be notified in writing of their admission status after the full application packet has been reviewed. Admission status possibilities for the MAT program include: formal, conditional or denial.
Formal Admission:
Students receiving formal admission have satisfactorily met all requirements for admission into the MAT program.
Conditional Admission:
Students receiving conditional admission have additional requirements to fulfill such as meeting the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement. Students will be notified of their conditional admission and receive a “Graduate Admission and Enrollment Check Sheet” describing the specific terms of their conditional admission. The “Graduate Admission and Enrollment Check Sheet” shall be signed by the student and returned to the Program Specialist. Students will need to meet formal admission conditions within the first six credit hours or they will not be allowed to enroll in subsequent semesters.
Denial Admission:
Students who are denied admission have failed to meet the requirements for admission into the MAT program.
