Work Study Positions
Technical Communication and Media Production majors or minors, who qualify for work study through the Financial Aid office, can apply for one of two work study positions available in the department. Before applying for either position, read the job descriptions and responsibilities carefully.
Lab Technician
The student Lab Technician is responsible for scheduling and maintaining the equipment in the Technical Communication computer lab. This position also assists faculty members in preparing for course material and/or setting up the lab, confirms students' eligibility to use the laboratory, reports broken equipment, maintains a supply inventory, prepares course materials, calls students to reschedule lab time when necessary, answers phone when necessary, keeps lab tidy, runs errands. Other work as assigned.
Media Producer
The Student Media Producer assists faculty in preparing and enhancing course materials and/or conference presentation materials, for both in-person and online use. Students in this position facilitate the enhancement of creation of materials by researching, formatting, repurposing, or incorporating appropriate media elements such as graphics, digital video or audio, animation, and a variety of Internet resources. Skills using Photoshop, Powerpoint, and Internet search engines are required, but experience with Dreamweaver, Flash, nonlinear video editing, or page layout would also be beneficial.
