Use the Drawing Markup Tools

Along with Annotations, the user also has the option to use free-form Drawing Markup tools that are meant to simulate actually drawing on or writing on a PDF. The drawing markups are divided into three different types: Line Markups, Polygon Markups, and Free form Markup.

Line Markups

Line Markups allow you to draw by clicking and dragging out your mouse to create the shape.

Text Box Markup

1.  Under the Comment panel > click on Drawing Markups > click on the Text Box  icon

2.  Click and drag in PDF to insert a box in which you can type text

  • Note: To change the text style, highlight the text > right click > point to Text Style > choose one of the formatting options, such as Italic

 

Callout Markup

1.  Under the Comment panel > click on Drawing Markups > click on the Callout icon

2.  Click in PDF to insert

3.  When inserted, click on the line of the shape and drag the circles around to move and resize the callout

4.  Double click in the box to enter text

 

Arrow Markup

1.  Under the Comment panel > click on Drawing Markups > click on the Arrow button

2.  Click and drag in PDF to insert

3.  When inserted, click on the arrow and drag the squares to move and resize the arrow

4.  Double click the arrow to open the Pop-up, in which you can type a comment

 

Circle Markup

1.  Under the Comment panel > click on Drawing Markups > click on the Circle button

2.  Click and drag in PDF to insert

3.  When inserted, click on the circle and drag the squares to move and resize the it

4.  Double click the arrow to open the Pop-up, in which you can type a comment


Square Markup

1.  Under the Comment panel > click on Drawing Markups > click on the Square button

2.  Click and drag in PDF to insert

 

3.  When inserted, click on the square and drag the squares to move and resize it

4.  Double click the arrow to open the Pop-up, in which you can type a comment


Polygon Markups

Polygon Markups create closed shapes by clicking for each corner of the shape and connecting the corners by clicking again on the first corner, this option gives you a little more control over the shape than Line Markups

 

Cloud Markup

1.  Under the Comment panel > click on Drawing Markups > click on the Cloud  button

2.  Click on the PDF where you want to add each corner of the cloud

3.  Click in the black square to complete the shape

4.  When inserted, click on the shape and drag the squares to move and resize it

5.  Double click the cloud to open the Pop-up, in which you can type a comment

 

Hexagon Markup

1.  Under the Comment panel > click on Drawing Markups > click on the Hexagon button

2.  Click on the PDF where you want to add each corner of the shape

3.  Click in the black square to complete the shape

4.  When inserted, click on the shape and drag the squares to move and resize it

5.  Double click the shape to open the Pop-up, in which you can type a comment


Connected Line Markup

1.  Under the Comment panel > click on Drawing Markups > click on the Connected Lines button

2.  Click on the PDF where you want to add the corners for the connected lines

3.  To finish drawing the line right click and select Complete


4.  When inserted, click on the shape and drag the squares to move and resize it

5.  Double click the shape to open the Pop-up, in which you can type a comment

 

Free form Markup

Free form Markup gives you the most control of the shape by allowing you to draw anywhere on the document

 

Pencil Markup

1.  Under the Comment panel > click on Drawing Markups > click on the Pencil button

2.  Click and drag to draw anywhere in the PDF

3.  When you have finished drawing, press the esc key to turn off the pencil

4.  You can resize the drawing by clicking on it and by dragging one of the squares in the corners

5.  Double click the shape to open the Pop-up, in which you can type a comment

 

Eraser

1.  Click and drag over any markups to erase

 

Change the Color of a Markup

By default all markups appear with red ink, however you can change the color as well as other appearances for a markup

1.  Right click on the markup you want to change > click Properties…


2.  In the Oval Properties window, click on the Appearance tab

3.  Here you can change the Style, Thickness, Color and Opacity of the line; and if it is a shape you can add a fill color as well

4.  Check the box next to Make Properties Default if you want the changes you made to be applied every time you use that particular markup

5.  Click Ok when finished

6.  Your changes will be applied to the markup
