Insert and Customize Column charts

Insert a Column chart

  • Select the data range including the heading of each column and row (do not select the Total column when creating a column chart)

  • Go to Insert Tab > Charts group > click on Column > click on the desired column chart on the category list

  • To create a column chart from data range to a brand new worksheet, select the data range > press F11 key


Customize a Column chart

  • Select a column chart

  • Go to Chart Tools tab > select either Design, Layout or Format tab to customize the chart

  • Do any of the following:

    • To move a column chart to a new sheet, go to Chart Tools tab > Design tab > Location group > click Move Chart

    • To change/swap data over the axis, go to Chart Tools tab > Design tab > Data group > click Switch Row/Column

    • To insert legends, go to Chart Tools tab > Layout tab > Labels group > click Legend

    • To apply a predefined style, go to Chart Tools tab > Design tab > Chart Styles group > click a desired style

    • To insert a chart title, go to Chart Tools tab > Layout tab > Labels group > click on Chart Title

    • To modify a chart title, go to Chart Tools tab > click Format tab
