Understand the Ribbon
Ribbon design goals

No more than two clicks away to access commands used most frequently (one click on the Ribbon tab, one click on the command)

Arrange the commands in the logical order to use most likely when creating a document
Command tabs
- Home Tab - contains clipboard, font, paragraph, styles and editing groups
- Insert Tab - contains pages, tables, illustrations, links, head/footer, text and symbol groups

- Page Layout Tab - contains themes, page setup, page background, paragraph and arrange groups

- Reference Tab - contains referable functions like a table of contents, footnotes, captions, citations, index table of authorities and bibliography groups
- Mailings Tab - enables you to quickly send the document interfacing with your Outlook to pull MS Exchange contacts also contains the create, start mail merge write
- Review Tab - contains proofing options (spell check), language settings, comments, tracking, changes, compare and protect options.

View Tab - contains view, ruler, zoom and so on

- Format and Picture Tools tab - displayed when having copy and pasted an image into a word document and gives the options to adjust the image, choose image style, arrange image and sizing options including the option to crop an image

- Design Tab (Header & Footer Tools) - displayed when selectinga design elements that are going to be changed such as header/footer, inserting pictures, Navigation to next design element, design options, and alignments

File Tab- displays an expanded menu of file commands and replaces the Office Button from MS Office 2007. It provides the options to Save, Save As, Open, Close, View Recent Docs, New Document, Print, Save and Send, Sharing Options, Permissions, Different Saved versions as well as Detailed Document Properties. Additionally on the top right of this page it shows an image of the current document and if clicked will take you back to the Home tab

Command groups
Certain groups are expandable to view more options, notice some groups have a small diagonal arrow in the lower-right corner.

Select these diagonal arrows also known as Dialog Box Launchers to bring up an options window

Not all items have expandable options and for those no Dialog Box Launcher will appear

Need Help
The help button is located in the top right hand corner. It contains a search feature to assist with any questions occurring while using the Word program
