Import Data

Import Data from CSV or text files

1.   From the Ribbon, click Data tab, go to  External Data Sources group and click Text


 

2.   In the Choose a File dialog box, choose the CSV file or text file that you want to import to the worksheet and then click Get Data



 

3.   In the Text Import Wizard dialog box, you can specify how you want to divide the text into columns and other formatting options

  • Under Choose the file types that best describes your data, select the type of original data file
  • Under Start import at row, select a row number where you want to start importing data
  • Click Next button

 

  • Under Delimiters, select character that Excel can use to delimit the data
  • Click Next button

 

  • Click Finish button

 

4.   In the Import Data dialog box, select which worksheet you want to place you imported data and then click OK

 

5.   The data file is imported into the selected worksheet



Connect to an external data source  

1.   From the Ribbon, click Data tab, go to External Data Sources group and select an external source that you want to import to the worksheet, for example HTML

2.   In the Open: Microsoft Excel dialog box, choose the HTML file that you want to import to the worksheet and then click Open button

 

 

3.   If the dialog box This Web page was created from an Excel spreadsheet appears, click OK button       

4.   Excel imports the data into a separate workbook
