Protect a Workbook
You can require anyone to enter a password to open the workbook as well as setup a separate password to modify the workbook. However, you need to be sure to remember the password because there is no way to open a workbook if you forget the password
1. From the Ribbon, click Review tab go to Protection and click Password button
2. In the File Password dialog box, do the following:
- Enter a Password to open the workbook or/and a Password to modify the workbook
TIP It’s always a good idea to make these two separate passwords
- Click the Read-only recommended check box if you want other users try to open the file, Excel will recommend that they open it read-only
- Click OK button

3. In the Confirm Password dialog box, do the following:
- Re-enter the password to open the workbook and click OK

- Re-enter the password to modify the workbook and click OK button

TIP You can set the password protection for the entire workbook or each individual worksheet in the workbook by doing the following:
- From the Ribbon, click Review tab ð Protection
- Click Sheet button to setup password protection for a desired individual sheet
- Click Workbook button to setup password protection for the entire workbook
