Work with Attachments

  • Examples of good files to attach include: PDFs, pictures, Word documents, Power Points and Excel spreadsheets
  • Avoid sending Program Files such as .exe extension because usually Outlook will block those files

 

Attach a File

1.   In the message compose dialog box, go to Message tab > Include group > click on Attach File

 

2.   Navigate the location of the file, select the file > click Choose

 

3.   Click Send to send the e-mail with the attachment

 

Preview Attachments in Outlook

1.   In the Item Pane, double click the e-mail message that has the attachment, indicated with the little paper clip sign to the left of the subject

 

2.   In the message window, next to the attachment, click the Preview button to view a preview of the attachment in a Quick Look Preview

 

3.   After previewing the message, click the X in the upper left hand corner

 

 

Preview Attachment in its Associated File Program

1.   Click the e-mail message that has the attachment, indicated with the little paper clip sign next to it



2.   In the message window, do one of the following:

  • Double click on the attachment

  • Right click on the attachment > choose Preview or Preview All

 

3.   Your computer will automatically open it in the appropriate program, such as Preview or Word

 

Save the Attachment without Opening

1.   Double click the e-mail message that has the attachment indicated with the little paper clip sign next to it

2.   Do one of the following:

  • From the Menu Bar, go to Message menu > point to Attachments > click on Save…
  • Right click on the attachment > choose Save As… or Save All…

3.   In the Save As dialog box, do the following:
  • Select the location to save the file
  • Click Save button
