Separate Slideshows into Sections

In Microsoft PowerPoint 2011, the new Section feature helps to organize slides by naming sections to keep track of groups of slides, assigning sections to colleagues to make ownership clear during collaboration, and even outlining the topic in the presentation

Add a Section Layout Slide

1.   Switch to Normal View

2.   At the top of the Navigation Pane, click Slides tab

3.   Click between the two slides where you wish to add a section title

4.   From the Ribbon, click Home tab > Slides > click the down arrow next to New Slide > select Section Header

5.   Click on the placeholder called Click to add title to enter the name of the section

 

Add a Section Title

1.   Place the mouse pointer between the previous slide and the section layout slide just created

2.   From the Ribbon, click Home tab > Slides > click the down arrow next to Section > select Add Section

3.   In the Rename Section dialog box

  • Enter the name of the section under Section name box
  • Click Rename button

4.   The number displays on the section title bar indicating the number of slides contained in the section

NOTE          By default, the Default Section title bar will add before the first slide thumbnail on the Navigation Bar when you add the first section title in your presentation

 

Rename a Section

1.   Right-click or press CONTROL + click on a section title bar  

2.   Select Rename Section from the shortcut menu

3.    In the Rename Section dialog box, do the following:

  • Type in a new name in the Section Name box
  • Click Rename button

 

Save Time with Section Titles

Expand and Collapse a Section

1.   In Normal View, select Slides tab > click on the small arrow to the left of the section title bar

2.   In Slides Sorter View, click the small arrow to the left of the section title bar

 

Format a Section Differently than the Other Sections

1.   Click the section title bar

2.   All slide thumbnails contained in the selected section will be highlighted or selected

3.   Apply desired formatting options

 

Change the Order of Sections

1.   Switch to either Normal View or Slide Sorter View

2.   Do one of the following:

  • Right click or press CONTROL + click the section title bar > select either Move Section Up or Move Section Down option from the shortcut menu 

  • Drag the section title bar to a new location order
