Work with Charts

Insert a chart

1.   Do one of the following:

  • Click on the Insert Chart icon in the placeholder

  • From the Menu Bar, click Insert > choose Chart

2.   From the Ribbon, click Chart tab > Insert Chart > select a desired type of chart, for example  3-D Pie

3.   The sample Excel spreadsheet is displayed on the screen, enter the data in the spreadsheet and then close the sample Excel spreadsheet

4.   The chart with new data is inserted in the slide

 

Format the Chart

1.   Select the chart

2.   From the Ribbon, click Charts tab, Chart Layout tab or Format tab and choose formatting options

 

Edit Data of the Chart

1.   Select the chart

2.   From the Ribbon, click Charts tab > Data > click Edit button

3.   The Excel spreadsheet will open to allow you edit the data

 

Paste a Chart from Excel

1.   In the Excel workbook, do the following:

  • Select the chart to insert to the PowerPoint slide
  • Do one of the following
    • From the Toolbar, click Copy button
    • Press command + C (⌘C)

2.   In the PowerPoint, do the following:

  • Select the slide that you want to paste a chart from Excel

  • From the Menu Bar, click Edit > choose Paste Special

3.   In the Paste Special dialog box, do the following:

  • Under Paste As, select one of the following paste options:
    • Microsoft Office Drawing Object – paste the Excel chart as an drawing object which can be modified by using drawing tools
    • Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object – paste the Excel chart as the object and you will be able to edit that content in Microsoft Excel by double clicking the table
    • Picture – paste the Excel chart as an image that you can easily format as a shape, but you will not be able to change the content
    • PDF – paste the Excel chart as PDF file and you will not be able to change the content
  • Click OK button

4.   Click off the slide to see the result
