Insert an Excel Chart
1. In the Excel spreadsheet, right click on the chart you want to copy > select Copy

2. In the document, place the cursor to the position that you want to place the chart, and then do one the following:
- Go to Edit menu > click on Paste Special…

- Right-click and select Paste Special…

- In the Paste Special dialog box, select one of several options for pasting an Excel chart:

- Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object – inserts the contents of the spreadsheet into the document so that you can edit it using Excelworksheets. To edit, do one of the following:
- Double click on the object in Word to open an Excel chart with the information in it
- Right click on the chart in the document > point to Worksheet Object > click on Edit or Open to open the chart in Excel

- Picture – copies the chart as a picture. To format the chart, right click on the chart in the document > click on Format Picture to open the chart in Picture Format dialog box

- PDF– inserts the contents as a PDF file

- Microsoft Office Graphic Object – inserts the chart as a shape
- Select Display as icon check box to paste a link and display it as icon along with the chart

- Click on the icon to open the chart in an Excel spreadsheet

Quick Tips
1. Using paste options with linked data, will keep the chart up-to-date if the data in the spreadsheet changes. However, the chart will be frozen in time if the workbook is renamed, hidden or deleted
2. Using paste the chart as a picture allows you to re-size the chart easily
Create an Excel Chart in a Word Document
1. From the Ribbon, go to Charts tab > Insert Chart group > select the desired chart type

2. Click on the desired chart style
3. Microsoft will automatically open an Excel document

4. Enter data into table provided in the Excel document

5. The chart in Word will be automatically updated
