Create, Add and Remove a folder shortcut from the Sidebar

Create a folder on Desktop

  • Click on desktop screen to activate Finder

  • Do one of the following:

    • On the Menu Bar, click File menu > click New Folder


    • Press the shortcut key: shift + cmd + N (ñzN)

  • The New Folder icon displays on the desktop and its name is highlight to allow you change its name > press Return key

    • NOTE: Press Return key to rename a folder/file

 

Add a folder shortcut to the Sidebar 

  • Open the new Finder window on the desktop

  • Click and drag it over the Sidebar

  • Notice that the blue line indicating where the folder shortcut will be placed on the list. If you want to delete the actual folder, you need to go to delete the folder at its original location

 

Remove a folder shortcut from the Sidebar

There are two ways to remove a folder shortcut from the Sidebar:

  • Delete the folder at the original location by dragging it into the Trash icon on the Dock


  • In the Finder window, right-click or press control + click on the shortcut folder you want to remove from the Sidebar > choose Remove from Sidebar
