Navigate the Start Menu

Click the left mouse button once on Start button to display the contents of Start menu broken into two sections

  • The left-hand side

    • The most recent files and programs that the user has worked with

    • All programs - included every program installed on the computer

      • Move the mouse to hover over All programs (do not click on All Program)

      • After a certain amount of time, a list of programs and folders containing additional programs will be displayed

    • Search box – help to find a program, a file and the contents of file

  • The right-hand side

    • Folders - My folders, My Document, Pictures, Music, Games

    • Shortcuts

      • Computer - lists all the drives, folders and their contents

      • Control Panel

      • Devices and Printers

      • Default Programs

      • Help and Support

    • Shut down or Log off button

On the left side of the Start menu, the list is ever changing because Windows is going to keep track of the things that the user uses most often and will then display them as a quick access on the list, for example, new applications installed may show up on the list

To close the Start menu, click left mouse button once anywhere on the desktop
