Welcome!

Welcome to Teacher Education at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver). The MSU Denver Teacher Education Programs prepare students to apply to the Colorado Department of Education for licensure. Students entering the program are typically either undergraduate or post-baccalaureate (students who have previously earned baccalaureate degrees). In the Teacher Education Programs, we support the MSU Denver mission to provide quality undergraduate education to the residents of metropolitan Denver. We provide one of the largest and best teacher education programs in the state to a diverse group of future teachers. As a student, you will have the opportunity to learn from highly qualified educators in professional education and content area studies, as well as from experienced public school teacher practitioners.

Our programs integrate recent research, theory, and the best of practice. They are designed to meet the educational needs of school districts, and they are coordinated with other academic departments, local and state educational agencies, and professional and learned societies. The programs provide a curriculum that recognizes the multi-cultural composition of the population served, the centrality of standards-based education, the role of schools in a democratic society, the importance of existing knowledge about learning and teaching, and the role of technology in instruction.

The Teacher Education Programs build upon a strong knowledge base emerging from the liberal arts (including general studies), an academic major/content area, and professional studies. By developing professional knowledge and providing opportunities for applying that knowledge in diverse school settings, students have the opportunity to integrate their general, subject area and professional knowledge with professional practice. All students are challenged to make appropriate decisions in a variety of educational situations and, by program's end, are well prepared to compete in the educational job market.

We encourage you to take advantage of the various educational workshops, seminars, guest speaker events, grant sponsored programs, and other activities that may be offered through the Teacher Education Programs or the various student education clubs--Student National Education Association, Kappa Delta Pi, and National Association for Beginning Teachers.
