Mission Statement
The Teacher as Decision Maker in Diverse Contexts
"The MSU Denver Teacher Education Program prepares caring and competent teachers as decision makers for the diverse contexts of classrooms, schools, and communities."
Mission Statement
The mission of MSU Denver’s Teacher Education Department is to provide exemplary undergraduate and post-baccalaureate programs that prepare teachers to make effective decisions in diverse contexts. The programs are derived from and integrate recent research theory and best practices. Programs are designed to meet the current and emerging educational needs of local school districts and are coordinated with other academic departments, local and state educational agencies, and professional and learned societies. The Teacher Education programs offer a curriculum that recognizes the multicultural composition of the population served, the global understandings necessary in an interconnected world, the relationship between education (schools) and maintaining a democratic society, the importance of existing knowledge about learning and teaching, and the role of technology in instruction.
These programs build upon a strong knowledge base that integrates the liberal arts including general studies, professional studies, and an academic major/content area. By developing professional and pedagogical knowledge based on existing and emerging theory, research, and practice, and providing opportunities for applying that knowledge in diverse school settings, teacher candidates have the opportunity to integrate their experience, philosophy, and content knowledge with professional practice.
