Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology Hal Nees has worked in the field of criminal justice for almost 30 years, the last eleven at Metro State. He was elected by his faculty peers president of the Faculty Senate, a position he held from 2004 through 2008; during his tenure Stephen Jordan was named president, faculty pay-for-performance was approved and the general studies curriculum was revised.  A 1976 graduate of Metro State, Nees also holds a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University; a master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and a master’s and a doctorate from the University of Colorado-Denver. He has worked as a police officer, police chief and director of a county-operated community corrections organization. He has served on numerous boards, including the Boulder Youth Center, the United Way of Southwest Colorado, the Community Corrections Board of Colorado’s Twentieth Judicial District, as co-chair of the State Advisory Board to the Colorado Division of Youth Services, and as chair of the Colorado Forum on Community and Restorative Justice, among others.
