Description: The Racial Justice (RJ) and Civil Rights Program works to eliminate racial disparities. Historically, this program has worked towards the vision of ending racial profiling and police violence in our communities. Interns are expected to have a role with the Racial Justice Hotline. Additional responsibilities will be determined according to need, time availability, skills, and interests.
1. Racial Justice Hotline: The hotline is a statewide phone line available to people who have experienced racial profiling/police brutality. This includes on call responsibilities, intake, database, case management and more.
2. Community Organizing: Outreaching, engaging, educating, and mobilizing communities that are most directly affected by racial profiling and police brutality. This involves bringing people into the RJ program in a substantive way. For example, we train community members to educate, canvass, and facilitate Know Your trainings. We also carefully recruit individuals to join our Racial Justice Task Force, a committee of individuals who have experienced racial profiling and police violence. This committee provides leadership and decision making for our program. Lastly, we are working towards engaging ally and faith communities in a more deliberate and intentional way. RJ Interns must be willing to canvass door to door, perform field work, and participate in phone banking.
3. Research: Acquisition of information about political targets and participation in "power mapping". Expertise and experience is not a must in this area. This would be a great place to learn.
4. Social Media: This includes contributing to Facebook and Twitter content and can also include creating digital graphics and digital stories.
5. Administrative Duties: Maintaining internal spreadsheets and databases, transcription of notes and filing, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.

1.) The Case Facilitator Internship involves assisting in answering incoming calls and following up with recorded messages. You will assist in educating the families towards self-sufficiency, and you will develop and maintain personal conversations as well a work through a follow-up worksheet provided for the family.
