CAPP PROCEDURES - ADVISING CENTER - SPRING 2001
The CAPP report is a planning tool to help you clarify your compliance with graduation requirements. It replaces the previous process used by the college for this purpose, which was the Graduation Agreement. CAPP reviews your record and compares it with all relevant requirements, including the specific requirements for your major and minor and college requirements, such as a minimum GPA requirements, residence requirements, etc. Because the CAPP technology is new and still under development, it is important for you to become familiar with the procedures that are currently in place for its use.
1. Once you receive your CAPP report you should make an appointment with a faculty advisor in your major (and minor if necessary) department to review and interpret the report. ONLY FACULTY MEMBERS HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO SUBMIT ADJUSTMENTS (changes and exceptions) TO YOUR REPORT, including adjustments to the General Studies Requirements.
2. If adjustments are agreed to by your faculty advisor(s), he/she will make them on the "CAPP Adjustment Form" and submit them to the Office of the Registar. The Registar's Office will only accept adjustments received from departments; hand-carried adjustments will not be accepted from students.
If you need adjustments to the General Studies Requirements, go directly to the department in question (example - BIO department for an adjustment involving a BIO course, etc.)
3. You will know that adjustments have been made once you receive a corrected CAPP at your home address mailed by the Office of the Registar. DO NOT REQUEST ADDITIONAL REPORTS AS A WAY OF CHECKING ON THE PROGRESS OF ADJUSTMENTS. Adjustments typically take several weeks to process and presently graduating seniors receive priority.
4. Many departments are now running CAPP reports. The Advising Center will run reports for students with more than 60 credit hours, and the wait time is an average of 3 days. However, during the peak registration periods wait time may be considerably longer--check with your department if it is possible to receive a report there.
If, after reading CAPP PROCEDURES you still have questions about CAPP, see a faculty advisor in the department. Further questions? Contact Ms. Janel Vigil, at vigiljan@mscd.edu.
