New Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Dr. Carrie Besnette

Please help the Metro State Alumni Association and Office of Alumni Relations welcome Dr. Carrie Besnette, the newly appointed VP of Institutional Advancement.

At Metro State, Besnette will serve as the Chief Advancement Officer and Executive Director of the Metro State Foundation, and will oversee the departments of Development, Communications and Alumni Relations, which fall under the umbrella of the Office of Institutional Advancement. She will be responsible for long-range and short-term fundraising efforts, external and community relations, alumni cultivation activities, building the College's brand through an integrated marketing and communication plan and positioning the Foundation to achieve its strategic development objectives.

Besnette had worked at the Daniels Fund since 2000 and served for nearly seven years as Vice President and a member of the original team responsible for shaping the $1 billion philanthropic foundation in the Rocky Mountain region.

Besnette holds master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA), and a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona. She currently serves on Board of Directors for the Denver Metro Chamber Foundation and Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Metro Denver Sports Commission and the National Pathways to College Network. She is currently serving as an appointed member of the Colorado Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Care Reform.

KEEPING CONNECTED:

Volunteers Needed for Student Majors Fair

When: Thursday, March 29, 2007, 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Where: Tivoli Turnhalle, Auraria Campus

The purpose of the Majors Fair is to give students who have not declared a major the opportunity to explore the variety of majors available at the College. Each department will host an information table about their degree program. As an alumni volunteer, you can share your career experiences and answer questions as they relate to the use of your major/degree in your career field.

If you would like to volunteer at the Majors Fair, please contact Stefanie Carroll at scarro17@mscd.edu or 303-556-6935 by Friday, March 23, 2007.

Need a Job?: Visit the Metro State Job Fair!

When: Tuesday, April 3, 2007, 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Where: Tivoli Turnhalle, Auraria Campus

Alums are strongly encouraged to attend, as numerous top Denver employers will be on-hand. Professional attire is encouraged and resumes are requested for those wishing to secure the ideal employment opportunity. CLICK HERE to register and to view attending employers.

Celebrate Metro State's Successful Graduates: 2nd Annual Alumni Recognition Evening

When: Wednesday, April 11, 2007, 6:30 p.m.– 8:00 p.m.
Where: St. Cajetan’s Center, Auraria Campus

Enjoy light hors d'Oeuvres, scrumptious desserts and delicious drinks with us as we celebrate the “Sweet Success” of our winners. Graduates will be recognized by one of the four Alumni Association core values that they embody on a daily basis:

Support Metro State Athletics: Go Metro State 2nd Annual Downtown 5K Run & Walk

When: Sunday, April 15, 2007, 8:00 a.m.
Where: Steps off at the Tivoli Student Union, Auraria Campus


The event, which is a flat and fast 5K, is an Official Bolder Boulder Qualifier. It starts in front of the Tivoli, where there will be free parking.
