In continuous publication since 1979, Metro State's student newspaper, The Metropolitan, is written and produced by and for students of MSCD. Its contents include a mix of news, features, sports, advertising and editorials.

The newspaper is published weekly during the fall and spring semesters, and monthly during the summer. The Metropolitan is 75 percent self-funded from advertising sales revenues. As a source of news and information, The Metropolitan is dedicated to serving the needs of a diverse Auraria campus community that includes more than 43,000 students — more than 20 percent of all of the college students in Colorado.
