TRI PART MISSION:
To provide personal, academic, & financial support to MSCD-CAMP
Students.

The following 16 specific program goals ensure a successful freshman year for all CAMP students. These goals satisfy the Program Guidelines of the Office of Migrant Education, US Dept. of Education, Washington D.C. as follows:

Student Recruitment
The identification & subsequent enrollment of eligible migrant students from Colorado & the Rocky Mountain Region is the principle focus of the recruitment effort. CAMP applicants will be recruited from urban & rural school districts, CCD’s High School Equivalency Program & community literacy programs within the state of Colorado.

Student Retention
CAMP will maintain a minimum of 80% retention for students who fully participate in CAMP services from freshman to sophomore year.

Student GPA
Students who fully participate will earn an average GPA of 3.0.

Inter-program Collaboration
CAMP Staff will collaborate with other MSCD student support programs to utilize/combine resources to better service CAMP participants.

Orientation to College/Special Activities
CAMP students will participate in special activities designed to ease their adjustment to college life. These activities include cultural & academic-related activities available at a major college & in a large urban area.
  • All CAMP students will be encouraged to attend the Summer Bridge Program. Summer Bridge and CAMP staff will intensively support the needs of students who are under-prepared, academically or emotionally, by providing intensive support.

Academic Enrichment and Individual/Small Group Tutoring
This goal recognizes that some CAMP students enroll with insufficient academic skills. CAMP students of all proficiency levels will receive academic skills building in both small class settings & individual tutorials. The following resources will help CAMP students meet this goal: Saturday Individual Tutoring sessions & Supplemental Instruction.

Academic Advising
CAMP students will receive academic advising from a variety of sources: the CAMP Office, Advising Center, Student Support Services and ESL/Immigrant Services. The CAMP Counselor will serve as the main advisor.

Leadership Development
CAMP Students will be given an opportunity to develop their leadership skills through exposure to various activities, organizations & events on/off campus, including the annual Spring Leadership Conference.

Career Awareness Activities
CAMP students will be exposed to selected career opportunities and the related course of study needed to achieve their desired career & personal goals. CAMP will collaborate with the MSCD Career Services & other related agencies to provide such services.

Financial Aid
CAMP applicants who qualify for financial aid will be made aware of all submission deadlines, & will receive personal assistance as needed.
  • The CAMP Recruiter & Counselor will assist students to complete their applications. Financial aid awards will be provided to students on an individual basis based on funding from any combination of the following:
  • Pell Grants, Colorado State Grants, MSCD-Opportunity Scholarships, & Campus Work-Study Employment.
  • The Counselor will make CAMP Students aware of available scholarship opportunities & will facilitate the application process. However, to assist CAMP students with their adjustment to college life, student participation in Campus Work-study programs will be minimal during their first year.

Personal Counseling
CAMP students will receive the personal support & counseling necessary to ease their adjustment to college, develop self-esteem, & build good study habits.

Health Care
All CAMP students not covered by a family medical plan will be enrolled into the health insurance program at the Auraria Student Health Center, covered through payment of tuition and fees.

Living/Travel Stipend
All MSCD students must secure off-campus housing, as none is available through the college. Therefore, CAMP students will receive a monthly stipend to help offset living costs.

Student Contracts
At the beginning of each semester, MSCD-CAMP student will sign a contractual agreement to guarantee his/her commitment to the MSCD-CAMP & to his/her academic progress.

Summer Employment & Internship Opportunities
CAMP Staff will assist students in applying for summer employment (on/off) campus & career-appropriate internships. Student Follow-up Following completion of the freshman year, CAMP staff will track students through college graduation & into their careers.
