Minors in the Speech Communication Program
Available Speech Communication Program Minors
Two minors are available in this program: Speech Communication and Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences.
The new Digital Media Minor includes courses selected from the departments of Art, Communication Arts & Sciences, and Technical Communications, with four concentrations: Still Media, Motion Media, Interactive Media, and Content Design. The Still Media concentration emphasizes studies in photography, photojournalism, and computer imaging. Motion Media concentration minors focus their studies on television and corporate video production. Students who choose Interactive Media concentrate on computer graphics, interactive applications, and web-based media production. Content Design concentration minors study design of the message from the visual and written perspective.
Requirements
THE 3200 Oral Interpretation and SPE 3740 Psychology of Communication are required for all Speech Communication minors. SPE 1010 is a prerequisite to both courses. SPE 1010 cannot be counted toward the 21 credits required for this minor; however, it may be used to fulfill General Studies requirements.
Students seeking a Speech Communication minor are required to take a minimum of 21 semester hours, 12 of which must be upper division. Those students seeking a Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences minor are required to take a minimum of 21 semester hours, 9 of which must be upper division.
