What Does the Organizational Communication Emphasis Offer?


 

Career Options

A graduate of Speech Communication with an emphasis in Organizational Communication might aspire to a lucrative and satisfying career in communication consulting/training, conference planning, workplace communication, and public relations. Careers are open in government, business, industry, and private consulting.

Requirements

Elective Speech Communication classes selected beyond the core should be determined in consultation with an advisor and approved by the Department of Speech Communication. Contact the MSCD Communication Arts & Sciences office for more information.

Independent study, topic courses, and experiential education courses such as practicums and internships may be taken in several program areas.

SPE 1010 Public Speaking is a prerequisite to SPE 3740 Psychology of Communication and THE 3200 Oral Interpretation. Both courses are required for all Speech Communication majors.

Digital Media Minor

Visit the Digital Media Minor page to see requirements for this exciting new minor, which offers courses selected from the departments of Art, Communication Arts & Sciences, and Technical Communications. Four concentrations in this minor are offered: Still Media, Motion Media, Interactive Media, and Content Design.

The Still Media concentration emphasizes studies in photography, photojournalism, and computer imaging. Motion Media concentration minors focus their studies on television and corporate video production. Students who choose Interactive Media concentrate on computer graphics, interactive applications, and web-based media production. Content Design concentration minors study design of the message from the visual and written perspective.
