Absent: Ellen Boswell, Larry Worster

1. Tara passed out the Minutes from Oct. 8, 2007, and asked for a vote after the guest speakers.

2. First Guest Speaker:  Myron Anderson, Interim Diversity Coordinator.  Myron announced a breakfast meeting tomorrow, Oct. 23, 2007 in TIV 320 at 8:30am to discuss the Strategic Plan for the Diversity Committee.  He invited everyone at this meeting and also anyone else who wishes to contribute ideas for the Committee and take part in that process. Myron also introduced Lidia Alvarez who will take Linnea’s place place since she is leaving at the end of this week.  His email is mande118@mscd.edu and his phone number is 556-3022 to reach him directly.  Some of the top issues are:

  1. diversity initiatives for the Strategic Plan
  2. focus groups
  3. Communication on this campus at all levels
  4. Domestic Partner Benefits
  5. A possible campus climate survey

3. Second Guest Speaker:   Judy Zewe, Director of Human Resources.  Judy gave us an update on the Salary Equity Study.  She first introduced us to Ranea Taylor who started on Oct. 8 in Human Resources.  She also gave us other changes with Emily Hinga leaving; Michael Bussey will be promoted to Emily’s job and Angie Mallow will take over Michael’s.  In addition, Ramona Morris is the new Student Employment Coordinator.

  1. Open Enrollment Fair for Insurance will be Nov. 6.  Decisions on changes are due back by Nov. 30.
  2. b. There was legislation that passed this year on Domestic Partnerships, but Judy has asked for the Attorney General’s    position on it.  She has not received that yet. She will let the Steering Committee know the outcome.
  3. Sandi Jones is in the process of collecting data for the Administrative Salary Review Process.  At this stage, HR is working with the Vice Presidents to be sure that all administrative positions descriptions are current and in PeopleAdmin.  Position descriptions (rather than titles) will be compared to access CUPA data to determine salary ranges.  However, HR is experiencing difficulty with defining what group of institutions to use for the comparison data.  CUPA data for “four-year bachelor degree-granting institutions” seems to provide the most fruitful data, but a there has not yet been a final decision on what institutions to use for the comparison.  COA will be asked for representatives to review the data and recommendations sometime during spring semester.  The goal is to complete the study and recommendations by July 8 when the 2007-2008 salaries are ready.
  4. The Democratic National Convention was discussed.  At this point in time, the campus will not be closed and, thus, there are no plans to grant administrative leave to staff or administrators.  However, the buildings will be locked and only individuals with key cards for a building will be able to enter the building.  The Vice Presidents have said that no one will be forced to take vacation time.  There is still discussion going on about whether administrators and staff will be coming to campus to work or working from home.  The details have not yet been worked out.  Judy Zewe provided the perspective that if the Secret Service officially closes the campus (which we won’t know until 90 days prior to the DNC) then employees would be given administrative leave.

 4. The meeting was adjourned at 11:37am without doing any regular     business.   Tara suggested that members read the Minutes that were passed out and vote on them at the next meeting on Monday, November 5, 2007 in WC 133.
