Auraria again forms team for AIDS walk
June 29, 2005

For more than a decade, there has been a team from Auraria participating in AIDS Walk Colorado, the Rocky Mountain region’s largest AIDS fund raiser—and this year is no exception.

“Auraria has had a team since before 1994, probably since 1990,” says Karen Bensen, Metro State’s director of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Student Services. “For the last ten years we’ve raised at least $10,000 a year, so altogether the Auraria Team has raised over $100,000.”

This year’s 3.1-mile walk will be held in Cheesman Park on Sunday, Aug. 21. The event benefits Colorado AIDS Project and more than 30 other agencies and programs that are dedicated to serving people with HIV/AIDS and providing education and prevention.

According to Bensen, team members who raise at least $35 will receive a free Auraria Walk Team t-shirt, plus additional prizes will be awarded to the team’s top fund raisers. There also will be a drawing for prizes the morning of the walk.

To register go to http://www.coloradoaidsproject.org/aids_walk_colorado/. When prompted, indicate your desire to join a team, and then select the Auraria Walk Team from the drop down menu.
