American flag from Iraq war given to Metro faculty
March 9, 2005

Two aerospace science students who served in the military in Iraq presented aerospace faculty last week with an American flag that had been flown into combat in Iraq. Students Justin Jones and Michael Schutte served on ground crews in the Air National Guard. The flag was flown into combat by alumni of Metro State’s Aviation and Aerospace Science Department who serve in the same Air National Guard unit as Jones and Schutte.

The flag was presented to department Chair Jeff Forrest and Assistant Professor Jeff Price.

“We’re very grateful for the training we’ve received from this department and we decided that presenting this American flag would be a nice way to show our appreciation,” explained Jones.

The flag will be put on display in the lobby of the Seventh Street Classroom Building, where the department is located. “It’s hard to describe how meaningful the students’ gesture is,” Price said. “It lets us know that what we’re doing makes a difference in people’s lives.”
