Roadrunner basketball teams open season with high rankings

Nov 5, 2012

The men’s and women’s basketball teams head into the 2012-13 season both ranked No. 5 nationally in the Division II Bulletin preseason top-25 poll and both top the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pre-season coaches poll released last Tuesday.

The men’s team, which also enjoys a No. 6 ranking in the Basketball Times preseason NCAA Division II top-20 poll, opens Nov. 9 at home against Minot State (N.D.) at 7 p.m. The Roadrunners played an exhibition game on Oct. 28 at Division I Colorado State, losing 87-67.

The first test for the women’s team comes on the road at Missouri Western on Nov. 10.

The men’s team is coming off their first NCAA Division II Central Region championship and Elite Eight appearance since 2005 after a 25-7 record. They start the season with a 47-15 record under Coach Derrick Clark.

The women Roadrunners, 27-4 last season, are coming off back-to-back Sweet Sixteen appearances at the NCAA Tournament and conference championships. The team is 57-7 under Coach Tanya Haave.

"We’re all extremely excited for the upcoming season as we have yet another opportunity to see just how good we can be," Haave says. "Our expectation is that we are focused on getting better each and every day with a sense of urgency to see where that is going to take us. "
